Frequently Asked Questions
How can I link to a specific map view?
At any point while viewing the map, you can click on the Get URL button in the upper right part of the page. Clicking this button reloads the map in your browser with a URL unique to your view of the map. Adding this URL as a link within a Web page or e-mail message will take someone back to that map view.
For greater control over the view you want to share, use the Select tool (click Select at the upper left of the map window). This tool allows you to highlight multiple buildings, roads, parking lots and bus stops. (Here's an example view to give you an idea of what you can do.) A URL for your custom view can then be saved by clicking the Get URL button.
For campus Web developers: Map buildings and facilities are referenced by their official building numbers as managed by the Division of Facilities, Planning and Management. If you own a Web application that stores the official building numbers, you can add links from your application to the map by using the URL form http://www.map.wisc.edu/?initObj=<building number>, (e.g. http://www.map.wisc.edu/?initObj=0050). See also the list of campus buildings included on the map (each with a link to it's view.)
How can I update or add a departmental listing for a building?
The department listings included in the campus map (visible when clicking a building) come from departmental directory data maintained by the Vice Chancellor for Administration. Any errors in this data (department name, URL or associated building) need to be corrected using the departmental directory update process. The campus map pulls in nightly the most current data on record from the VC Administration data source.
What are the system requirements needed to view the map?
